SRT aim to be a self-funding charity to maintain independence, resilience and longevity. If you love seals and would like to help us continue to help others help seals, then a donation of any amount makes a real difference to a small, agile and responsive charity like SRT. As a foundation charity, SRT’s only members are our trustees. The data, resources and services we provide are mostly free to the public and local communities. Many of our supporters, however, choose to contribute to our Wild Seal Supporter and Adoption Scheme by donating a monthly amount towards SRT’s core costs. We have no overheads, as we operate around our wild southwest coastline and from our homes, meaning we don’t have to pay rent for offices. The only paid people in our charity are our two full time equivalent paid rangers. So any donations you make directly contribute to our ability to conserve and protect seals for future generations to enjoy. Your hard earned money goes a long way with our small charity! We appreciate that not everyone is in a position to donate and this is fine with us, as we will continue to provide all our services for free to benefit seals!

Legacies
We have put together information for people who love seals and would consider leaving some money to the Seal Research Trust in their Will. This includes the different types of gift that you can leave, and how to write or update your Will - talking through the process from start to finish. If you would like to leave us a legacy in your will, please go to our Legacies page for help. Always seek professional legal advice from solicitors when writing your will and bear in mind this information was correct at the time of writing in July 2026.
Corporate Partnership
The Seal Research Trust doesn’t have membership fees, and relies on donations, legacies and funding from Corporate Partners for most of our income. The charity functions thanks to hundreds of volunteers that include all of the Officers and Trustees and our full-time Director who do not take a salary for the work that we do. Most of our volunteers do so from home, so we operate with no overheads from owning, leasing or renting offices or property. This is important to us all as it ensures that as much of the money as possible donated to our charity will be used directly to help seals and marine conservation projects.
